From Vaal River yellowfish to technical trout guiding.
Technical fly fishing,
taught with
patience.
Immersive Angling is led by Shayne Prinsloo, a fly fishing guide and dry-fly coach with roots on the Vaal River, a competition background, and a current focus on private Dullstroom trout guiding at Laverpa.
Shayne Prinsloo is the guide behind Immersive Angling, a private Dullstroom fly fishing service focused on technical dry-fly trout guiding and calm coaching at Laverpa. His background includes Vaal River yellowfish, competition fly fishing, provincial medals, Protea Trials experience and formal guide training through the R.E.F.F.I.S. and THETA fly fishing guide course.

Competition fly fishing background and provincial medals.
Private Dullstroom dry-fly trout guiding and coaching.
It started with yellowfish on the Vaal River.
Shayne’s fly fishing journey started more than two decades ago on the Vaal River, chasing yellowfish and learning how much moving water, presentation, fly choice and patience can teach an angler.
From weekend fishing to a lifelong obsession.
What started as a weekend escape became a serious passion for technical fly fishing, competition angling, guiding and teaching other anglers how to read water more carefully.
From the Vaal to Dullstroom trout water.
The same technical thinking that works on yellowfish — observation, presentation, angle, drift and fly choice — now shapes the way Shayne guides stillwater trout at Laverpa near Dullstroom.
From catching fish to building better anglers.
Immersive Angling is built around private sessions where the angler learns why decisions work, not just where to stand or what fly to tie on.
A technical background, not guesswork.
Shayne’s guiding style comes from years of practical fishing, competition pressure, formal guide training and real time on the water with different anglers.
2006 to 2015
Years spent in competition fly fishing sharpened technical decisions, fly choice, pressure management and water reading.
Gold, silver and bronze
Team and individual medals at South African Fly Fishing Nationals with Central Gauteng Province.
2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009

Completed the 2007 fly fishing guide course with Linecasters, Fred Steynberg, Mario Du Preez and Tom Sutcliffe.
Private coaching
Current sessions are small, calm and focused: one or two anglers at a time, with practical help on real water.
Laverpa, Dullstroom
Shayne’s Dullstroom trips focus on stillwater trout, dry-fly tactics, clear-water presentation and beginner-safe coaching.
The goal is simple: better fishing, better decisions, better respect for the water.
Immersive Angling exists to give anglers a more thoughtful day on the water. That means clear guidance, calm coaching, ethical fish handling and a proper understanding of how trout and yellowfish respond to their environment.
The aim is not to rush anglers through a checklist. It is to slow the day down enough that the important things become visible: movement, wind, water clarity, fly size, leader angle, drift and timing.
Teach the why
Anglers should understand why a fly, leader, position or tactic makes sense.
Respect the fishery
Responsible handling, barbless hooks and care for the venue are part of the experience.
Keep it private
One or two anglers keeps the coaching focused and the bank approach quieter.
Make the day useful
Whether the angler is new or experienced, the goal is to leave with better decisions.

The service is intentionally focused: small-format guiding, technical dry-fly coaching and practical help for anglers who want a better Dullstroom trout day.

Technical dry-fly coaching
For anglers who want to understand refusals, emergers, surface-film feeding, wind lanes, weed edges and why one cast can matter more than ten.
Experienced enough to guide. Patient enough to teach.
The best guided day is not only about catching. It is about learning how to see the water, understand the fish and make better decisions the next time you fish alone.
Years on different water.
From the Vaal River to Dullstroom stillwaters, Shayne’s background covers moving water, stillwater trout, dry flies and competition pressure.
The detail matters.
Small things like leader angle, fly size, bank movement and presentation are treated as the real game, not afterthoughts.
Beginner-safe, not watered down.
Beginners are welcome, but the coaching still teaches proper fly fishing decisions from the start.
A calm, private format suits technical trout fishing.
Laverpa is clear enough that trout often punish rushed movement and poor presentation. The private one- or two-angler format gives Shayne time to adjust the plan properly.

Technical days, better decisions
The goal is to build a plan around the water, not force the same tactic all day.
