Our story

It started with yellowfish on the Vaal River.

Shayne’s fly fishing journey started more than two decades ago on the Vaal River, chasing yellowfish and learning how much moving water, presentation, fly choice and patience can teach an angler.

From weekend fishing to a lifelong obsession.

What started as a weekend escape became a serious passion for technical fly fishing, competition angling, guiding and teaching other anglers how to read water more carefully.

From the Vaal to Dullstroom trout water.

The same technical thinking that works on yellowfish — observation, presentation, angle, drift and fly choice — now shapes the way Shayne guides stillwater trout at Laverpa near Dullstroom.

From catching fish to building better anglers.

Immersive Angling is built around private sessions where the angler learns why decisions work, not just where to stand or what fly to tie on.

Guiding focus

Private coaching

Current sessions are small, calm and focused: one or two anglers at a time, with practical help on real water.

Mission

The goal is simple: better fishing, better decisions, better respect for the water.

Immersive Angling exists to give anglers a more thoughtful day on the water. That means clear guidance, calm coaching, ethical fish handling and a proper understanding of how trout and yellowfish respond to their environment.

The aim is not to rush anglers through a checklist. It is to slow the day down enough that the important things become visible: movement, wind, water clarity, fly size, leader angle, drift and timing.

01

Teach the why

Anglers should understand why a fly, leader, position or tactic makes sense.

02

Respect the fishery

Responsible handling, barbless hooks and care for the venue are part of the experience.

03

Keep it private

One or two anglers keeps the coaching focused and the bank approach quieter.

04

Make the day useful

Whether the angler is new or experienced, the goal is to leave with better decisions.

Why choose Shayne?

Experienced enough to guide. Patient enough to teach.

The best guided day is not only about catching. It is about learning how to see the water, understand the fish and make better decisions the next time you fish alone.

Experience

Years on different water.

From the Vaal River to Dullstroom stillwaters, Shayne’s background covers moving water, stillwater trout, dry flies and competition pressure.

Passion

The detail matters.

Small things like leader angle, fly size, bank movement and presentation are treated as the real game, not afterthoughts.

About Shayne FAQ

Quick answers about your Dullstroom guide.

Straight answers about Shayne’s background, guiding style, Laverpa, lessons and how to check availability.

Shayne Prinsloo is the guide behind Immersive Angling, a private Dullstroom fly fishing guide service focused on Laverpa, stillwater trout, dry-fly coaching and calm one- or two-angler sessions.
Shayne’s background includes more than two decades of fly fishing, Vaal River yellowfish, competition fly fishing, provincial medals, Protea Trials experience and formal guide training through the R.E.F.F.I.S. and THETA fly fishing guide course.
Immersive Angling mainly guides selected private Dullstroom stillwaters, with Laverpa used as the core venue for technical trout sessions, dry-fly coaching and beginner-friendly guided days.
Yes. The guiding style is calm and practical, with private sessions built around one or two anglers so beginners can learn casting, setup, fly choice and trout behaviour without feeling rushed.
No. Complete beginners, improving anglers and experienced trout anglers can all book. The day is adjusted around the angler’s level, weather, water clarity and realistic fishing plan.
The focus is on small private sessions, technical dry-fly thinking, clear explanations and teaching the reason behind each decision, not just pointing anglers at water.
A guided day can include fly choice, leader setup, tippet, bank approach, casting angles, reading weedlines, rise forms, cruising fish, dry-dropper decisions and responsible catch-and-release handling.
Yes. The fly fishing lessons page is best for complete beginners or anglers who want the day slowed down with more teaching around casting, knots, setup and basic stillwater trout tactics.
Laverpa is the main guided venue because it offers clear stillwater trout scenarios that suit private coaching, dry-fly presentation, weedline fishing and technical decision-making.
No honest guide should guarantee fish. A guide helps you make better decisions, choose water and flies more carefully, and adapt to the conditions, but trout fishing remains weather- and behaviour-dependent.
Immersive Angling keeps the guided format private and small, usually one or two anglers, so the coaching stays focused and the bank approach remains quiet.

At the water

A calm, private format suits technical trout fishing.

Laverpa is clear enough that trout often punish rushed movement and poor presentation. The private one- or two-angler format gives Shayne time to adjust the plan properly.
